  1.                     SatisFAXtion/400 Update Information
  2.  
  3.     This archive contains the latest version of firmware for the
  4.     SatisFAXtion Modem/400.  If you wish to obtain a full update,
  5.     call Intel's FaxBACK Service at (800) 525-3019 and request
  6.     document #0029.  The full update is also available on the Intel
  7.     BBS, but due to OEM licensing agreements can be distributed only
  8.     through the "Registered User Software Upgrades" menu, which is
  9.     accessed from the Main Menu.
  10.  
  11.     The following sections describe installation procedures for this
  12.     firmware update as well as a list of fixes and changes.  To
  13.     determine whether you need the full update, read the section
  14.     "WHAT'S CHANGED IN THE FULL UPDATE" below.

  16. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  17. =========================

  19. * Copy all files into your fax software directory (usually C:\FAX).
  20.   (If you extracted the archive in your fax directory, overwriting existing
  21.   files, then this step has already been done.)

  23. WHAT'S CHANGED IN THE FIRMWARE UPDATE
  24. =====================================

  26. DOWNLOAD.400  Ver. 3.11 (items with ** are new in 3.11, items marked
  27.                          with * were effective in 3.10):
  28.  
  29. * Enables 14.4Kbps fax receive capability.
  30.  
  31. * Fixes most problems where the board emits a clicking sound and/or no 
  32.   dialtone is received when the downline phone is picked up.  (When
  33.   using the "mostly voice calls" or "mostly fax calls" options.)
  34.   
  35.   Version 3.02 and higher fixed these problems with most phones, however, 
  36.   there are some phones (including many Panasonic multi-feature phones) 
  37.   which still do not get a dialtone when plugged into the SatisFAXtion board.  
  38.   The only solution to this problem is to try using a different brand/model 
  39.   of phone.

  41. * Fixes problems with Smart Line Sharing where the board picks up and 
  42.   listens for fax tone even when fax autoanswer is turned off.  This caused 
  43.   the board to interfere with some answering machines.  The board no longer
  44.   listens for fax tones when the fax autoanswer is turned off.

  46. * Fixes problems with the "distinctive ring" feature of Smart Line Sharing.

  48. * Fixes various data modem problems, including problems connecting with 
  49.   2400bps modems.

  51. * Fixes problems resulting in various protocol errors, including "Remote 
  52.   unit not Group 3 compatible" and "Phone line dead or remote disconnected".

  92. * Fixes various bugs in the HP emulation for FAXPOP & PRN2FAX.

  94.   NOTE:  This version of the HP emulation software fixes several bugs, but
  95.          a small number of new bugs were introduced.  In general, the 
  96.          emulation was considered to be more robust than the previous 
  97.          version, so it was released with this update.  The following list 
  98.          shows what was fixed and also lists the known new bugs.  If this 
  99.          version creates problems for your application, please run SETUP 
  100.          from your original disks and recopy the original FAXPOP.EXE, 
  101.          PRN2FAX.EXE, ASCII.OVL, EPSON.OVL & HP.OVL files.  This will return 
  102.          your HP emulation software to the original 1.40 version.

  104.          If you discover a problem in this version, please report it to Intel
  105.          by sending a fax to the "Intel Support, USA" number in your DEFAULT
  106.          phonebook.  Include a detailed description of the problem and attach 
  107.          a copy of the PCL file that is generated by "printing" your document 
  108.          to a disk file (instead of the printer).  Include the filename in the
  109.          description file.

  122.   (Note:  The emulator does not support HP-GL, but normally HP-GL commands
